1. Sometimes the site seems slow. Is this normal?
It depends which part of the site you are visiting at the time. All areas of the site, with the exception of our purchasing facility, are hosted from a dedicated server in the UK. This should respond quickly at all times. Once you step into the e-commerce section of the site, the host is in the US and can be a little slow at busy times. It may, for example take a few seconds to render an image in a gallery. We are working with the host to resolve this but it is largely outside of our control. Please do get in touch if you experience any site errors or slow performance as it may be a simple fix.
2. Why are your prints more expensive?
2 reasons. Firstly, when you pay for a print, you are paying for the photograph and not just the print. Printing your own pictures can seem very cheap in comparison because you took the picture and own the rights to the digital data. When you print from a professional photographer, you also pay for the work involved in taking and post-processing the image to get it to the point where it becomes an image that you have decided you want to buy and display. The second reason is that we only run print through a professional lab. A consumer lab (e.g. Photobox) can offer better prices but does not offer the quality of the lab we use. Colour reproduction is second to none and paper quality is outstanding. As with many things in life, you get what you pay for and photography prints certainly fall into that category. We believe that the prices we charge are fair and, if you are in any way unhappy with the product and quality you receive, please let us know.
10 pence per print is ideal when printing a batch of 50 pictures. What we hope is that you will come here and select maybe 2-10 pictures that you really love and, as a result, will be willing to part with a little extra money to have a superb quality copy of those images for you to frame and display.
3. Why is CruiseOne not always online?
Various reasons. The server providing the stream to you (listener x 256kbps) is up 24/7 on a 100mbps link to the net directly from a core provider in London. It has a 99.9% SLA and has been offline for no more that an hour in the last 4 years. The upstream link to that server (1 x 256kbps) is on a 30mbps link but is subject to consumer downtime caused by standard maintenance, installs and failures.Other than that, CruiseOne is a hobby. It is not a business and does not generate money for us. It is run through a passion for music, computers and radio…in fact, internet radio really is a perfect mix for those individuals who love those three things. Sometimes this means that it simply gets shutdown when e.g. we’re moving part of the office around or something like that. So far, I would guess the uptime since 2008 is about 90%. Not too bad considering!
4. I clicked on ‘Buy Prints’ but cannot see my gallery. What am I doing wrong?
Some galleries are not public and are therefore not able to be accessed without a code or name. If you were sent a code for access, click on ‘Proofing Gallery‘, enter the code and you should get immediate access to your photoset.Alternatively, you may need to access your gallery via an address exclusive to your gallery. This would be in the format of…
