The World’s Worst Remote Control

Apple Siri Remote - A1962

An unboxing of the Apple Siri Remote and Elago R1 case. I also chat about why this is probably one of the worst remotes in the world. Let's hope they change it in the future whenever and if they choose to release a new revision of the Apple TV box.

I recently got a small amount of liquid into the top of the Apple Siri Remote. A day later the battery was dead, and it turns out that a bit of water completely destroyed the battery meaning it had to be charged once a day (consider that this thing last weeks with normal use). After about 2 months, the touchpad is also now dead! Time for a replacement.

This video is me unboxing the replacement, but it's mainly an excuse for me to have a moan about the worst remote control design in history. This is wrong on so many levels and is a perfect example of form over function. So desparate to stick to the sleek look, the team at Apple forgot what a good remote control has to be.

  • Built like a tank

  • Simple to navigate with or without looking

  • Responsive and accurate

  • Easy to hold

The Elago R1 Silicone Case

To avoid the destruction of the remote by our two children, this time I have spent an extra few pound on a case. Already the remote feels easier to hold which, in turn, has improved reponsiveness and accuracy of the touchpad.

Your Thoughts?

Thanks for watching and please let me know in the comments if you have any experience with this remote. How do you find it? Have you ever got used to it's 'precise' needs?
