Soothe 3 Pros

  • Great FHD Image Quality Night or Day. Not up to the standard of modern security cameras but perfectly sufficient for a baby monitor.

  • Good 2.4GHz wireless range. A baby monitor does not perform any better than regular Wi-Fi but this device is at the upper end of 2.4GHz capability. This is helped by both camera and monitor having external antennas.

  • So simple to use. Everything is controlled from a basic, clear menu system or the buttons on the monitor. There are no deep sub menus to contend with.

  • Battery Life is excellent. I managed 6 hours on medium brightness with the screen continuously on and the unit recording to a micro-SD card. You could easily manage the quoted 8 hours if the screen was allowed to turn off.

  • Good functionality. This hasn’t got endless bells and whistles. It does what you need and does it well. Temperature, talkback to the camera, soothing lullabies, pan-tilt-zoom and recording on both the camera and monitor.

  • Reliability is excellent. In my use, this hasn’t crashed or failed to do what I asked once. It has paired first time every time.

  • Security. Baby monitors like this use their own network. It keeps the video of your baby away from the network you use to go online.

  • USB Power. All devices are 5V USB so you can use a power-bank for both camera and monitor if required.

  • Multiple camera setup. You can connect up to 4 cameras to one monitor to allow monitoring of multiple nurseries.

  • Nice packaging and clear user manual. No bad translations.

Soothe 3 Cons

  • It’s quite a bulky unit. It’s not out of line with other baby monitors but next to modern devices, it does look quite dated.

  • The only mount for the camera is a wall mount. A baby monitor is something a take when going away from home. It’s not something I want to fix to the wall.

  • The built in soothing music is not amazing quality.

  • Audio pickup can be a little quiet at times. A cry would come through fine, however.

  • Vertical movement on the camera is very limited.

  • No motion sensor option.

Conclusion

I've seen and used quite a few baby monitors during my time as a parent. This is one of the best I've tested. The Heimvision Soothe 3 does not include a movement sensor pad. It's not that type of product, and that's something that I have never personally felt the need for.

It's a video monitoring system, and it's a good one. If you're looking for a reliable baby monitor with great battery life, you could do a lot worse. It makes the one I used with my two-year-old look pretty dated!
