WHY BUY A SUSTAIN PEDAL?
If you don't own a sustain pedal, but you use a midi keyboard to play anything more than simple drums or bass lines, get one! That's not me trying to sell you something, but I have just got one after over ten years without and it's incredible the difference it makes in the flexibility of your playing.If you're a highly proficient player, you will need one (and probably have one already), but if you're an average player (like me), I promise that you will not regret it. Many keys based plug-ins support sustain pedals fully with bespoke sustained samples. Not only that, but other plug-ins can use the pedal to hold a rhythm or preset pattern which can be very handy.I went for the M-Audio SP2 Sustain Pedal and, despite a small amount of slippage when wearing shoes (doesn't happen in socks or barefoot), it's perfect for the job.
