WHAT’S NETSPOT?

NetSpot was released by Etwok in 2011. It runs on Mac OS X 10.6+ and Windows 7-8-10 and supports 802.11n, 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g wireless networks.

Unlike other wifi analysis tools, NetSpot uses the standard Wi-Fi network adapter to map radio signal strength and other wireless network parameters, and build reports and survey data. The only exception to this is the iOS version which does need additional USB hardware.

It comes in 4 flavours (Free, Home, Pro and Enterprise) with the Free version lacking the usual essential features but still offering a thoroughly solid set of tools to see what's going on, particularly for home networks. The real power comes in the 'Survey' section, and for that, you'll have to pay. If you're serious about setting up a reliable mesh network, you'll be flying blind without a tool like this.
